When Canberra based animator Jordie McKay approached Jericco with an animated idea as his first video clip, this is the result. Ritchie K of 'Ritchie K ProductionsI shot the green screen at SAE college. Check out more from the band here... http://www.myspace.com/jericcoband
From the mouth of Jordie... "The general concept for the animated sequences came from my first discussions with the band, they wanted to portray a characters emotional descent and explore the tragedy of being attracted to something which is causing you harm. I came up with a basic storyboard then produced an animatic which I presented to the band. They were really positive about it and gave me full creative freedom which I felt was a tremendous gesture of creative trust."
"For the live action sequences, the band chose to work with Ritchie K Productions. This was a natural choice as they had worked with Ritchie before and he had produced some great stuff for them. Ritchie arranged access to the green screen stage at SAE Melbourne and I flew down from Canberra for the day to direct the shoot. My job was made very easy by the passion of the guys in front of the lens, and the skill of Ritchie K behind it. The band really believe in what they are doing and it came through in the takes. Ritchie did an awesome job of capturing this and I walked away from the shoot absolutely spoiled for good footage."
"I used Jericco's EP cover as a guide for the aesthetic of the live action sequences. I wanted it to be quite basic in its style so the emphasis was on the human side of the performances. The biggest challenge I faced was that we shot all of the guys individually and I needed to create the impression of unity."
"The 3D sequences took the most time to finalise. The incredible freedom afforded by 3D as a medium comes with its own set of technical headaches and this project had its fair share of those. This is what draws me to 3D and makes it so satisfying to do from both an artistic and technical perspective."
"Overall I'm happy with the end result and think the video definately punches above its weight considering that it was a first effort in many ways for all parties involved."
